Yemen documentary

PBS Frontline recently posted a new documentary on the current crisis in Yemen. It's well worth viewing.

In The Fight for Yemen, journalist and filmmaker Safa al-Ahmad takes the viewer inside the present conflict that is punishing an already poor and punished people as well as threatening the country's existence. The footage Ahmad and her team were able to acquire is impressive, if extremely dangerous.

The film offers viewers a unique glimpse into the three-cornered contest between the Yemeni government, the Houthi rebels whose control now extends southward to the capital of Sanaa and beyond, and al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

The film does an excellent job, though its focus is the country's internal struggle. The broader regional, geopolitical context, which includes the United States, receives light treatment; only in passing does the US drone program get mentioned. I don't mention this necessarily as a criticism, but merely to alert those interested in watching the film that the reportage is centered on Yemen.

For a decent rundown of the bigger picture, I would recommend a brief video by AJ+, embedded video and link below.
