CNN on Obama-Muslim remarks

Credit where credit is due, I thought CNN did well to report the absurdity of this incident. Conservative activist Larry Klayman recently said at a protest in Washington, DC, that the United States is "ruled by a president who bows down to Allah." He then exhorted:

I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees....

Klayman's words are woeful all around. The reason for the government shutdown is clear, and most Americans assign blame appropriately (see Sep. 30 blog post). (As a side note, Jon Stewart's recent comical highlighting on The Daily Show of the shutdown's genesis is worth watching. Link below.)

Moreover, critically referring to the president as a Muslim raises a minimum of three points: (1) Barack Obama is not a Muslim; (2) being a Muslim does not represent a flaw in one's character, it represents being an adherent to Islam, of whom there are 1.6 billion; and (3) for someone advocating nonviolence, Mr. Klayman's invidious rhetoric could plausibly be construed as incitement. Hardly nonviolent.
