In connection with my Nov. 5 post, I found this piece in the Guardian to be an interesting continuation of a theme, that is, unsentimental entities expressing practical concern over our warming planet. The business press, the German reinsurance giant Munich Re, and now the Pentagon. (Actually, the Pentagon has been concerned for a while about global warming as a serious security issue.)
Up until now, global warming has basically been painted as a liberal issue. As is common, facts and reality tend to get dismissed as left-of-center at first. In this case, however, it won't be gradual intellectual acceptance of, for example, uncomfortable historical truths; instead, Mother Nature will be supplying the facts this time, and there will be nothing intellectual about it.
