And if there is no good time to talk about politics and important issues, we might give thought to whom this benefits. If we're silent on matters or poverty, race, sexism, class, foreign policy, or global warming, someone, somewhere is tickled pink. Therefore, we are doing a list of unregenerate individuals a huge service by not talking to one another and not speaking up. I'll tell you what: were I a white supremacist, I would not want broad popular, constructive, rational discourse on race; I would want people to put a cork in it and think about something else . Same if I was a Wall Street banker. Look over there! Don't look over here at what I'm doing. (And no ... [sigh], I'm not comparing white supremacists and Wall Street bankers. But, if I don't say this, someone will blow a gasket. It's just they are both doing the country harm and both desire the population be distracted with the other things.) Silence is a form of support—support for things I don't think you want to support.
