Charles Glass, Syria Burning

Charles Glass's most recent book, Syria Burning: ISIS and the Death of the Arab Spring, is a title I recommend highly.

Released this year by O/R Books, Glass packs much into a very short book. Much like Patrick Cockburn's The Jihadis Return, also recommended on this blog (see Aug. 29, 2014, blog post)—and who wrote the forward for Glass's book—the reader is presented with clear, informed historical review and analysis by a journalist who knows well the country and region.

For those seeking better understanding of the somewhat tangled who's who of the Syrian conflict, one couldn't do much better than to read these two short works back to back. Even combined, they would make a rather short book, much to O/R and the authors' credit.
