I found the Al Jazeera documentary Afghanistan: The Price of Revenge to be a very worthwhile review of the US-led invasion and occupation. In two 45-minute segments, the documentary covers from 9/11 to the killing of bin Laden and appropriately shows the war to be futile and based on power projection.
Though between the two major post-9/11 US military campaigns Iraq is commonly viewed as the war of choice, it is crucial to know and remember that Afghanistan was also a war of choice. What should have been a police operation accompanied by application of international law became over a decade of continued suffering and hardship for the people of Afghanistan - not to mention another misuse of the US military, with now over 2,000 killed.
For historical background and a rundown of Afghanistan's last thirty years, see my essay "Afghanistan: The Devastation of a Virtual Country" from early 2012 (third link below).
