Pilger on Iraq

Good piece on the wreckage that is postwar Iraq. The statistic that 4.5 million children have lost one or both parents is a heartrending one. (This figure assumes 1 million killed during the war, which is possible but might be high. I normally use the figure of a half-million; see the footnote to my Aug. 9, 2012, blog post.)

In either case, these reminders of what was done to that country - with enormous popular support in the United States, initially - are crucial.

Moreover, there is an unfortunate scarcity of John Pilgers in journalism. With more like him, the Iraq war might not have gained the necessary support in the first place.
