A recent Washington Post-ABC poll indicated that 70 percent of Americans feel the Republican Party is out of touch with the population's concerns. It's important the keep these things in mind, even if the headline here has a "the sky is blue" sort of feel to it. (See also Mar. 6 blog post.)
Also revealed (again) by the poll is the reality that the majority of Americans are in agreement and where they stand is rational and consistent. Americans are constantly told that they are a nation divided. And divided it is: on the one side you have Congress, and on the other you have 55-75 percent consensus on basically all major policy issues.
Given this fact, this would make the Democrats out of touch with the population's concerns; the GOP is just that much farther to the right. And, it should be mentioned, its future in American politics is not guaranteed.
