Al Jazeera America

Interesting development. Qatar-based news organization Al Jazeera has acquired independent news channel Current TV.

It remains to be seen what Al Jazeera will do with Current's shows - drop some, maybe fold some in - but I have enjoyed much of what Current has had to offer. Despite many times overdoing the cute and droll delivery that unfortunately liberal programs are known for, the content and approach has usually been rational, centrist, and informative.

That said, this is a great opportunity for Al Jazeera to gain increased exposure in the United States. Some of the anti-Al Jazeera message spread by the Bush W. administration sadly stuck, but maybe this will help introduce Americans to a news organization the likes of which we simply don't have in this country.
