Vietnamese government figures show that unexploded bombs have killed more than 42,000 people since the war ended in 1975.
Though it addresses the same issue but in Laos, I highly recommend the 2002 documentary Bombies (pronounced bomb-beez). The story of the US devastation of Laos is largely an unknown one among Americans, but is equally worthy of historical attention.
Over the 1964-73 period, Laos was subjected to continuous US bombing raids in a program called Operation Barrel Roll. During these nine years, the United States dropped over 2 million tons of bombs on the country, which came to roughly one ton per person living in Laos at the time. (In terms of area, Laos is slightly bigger than Minnesota.) From 1975 to the present, an estimated 20,000 Laotians have been killed or maimed by unexploded ordnance, including anti-personnel submunitions referred to by villagers as "bombies."
